Physical Description:
Maggie is fairly small at 5'4" and 110 pounds soaking wet. Her eyes are grey, but she can't even remember her natural hair color. She changes it constantly. Often hot pink.
Matchstick Maggie doesn't choose outfits, she creates scenes. Torn sleeves, ripped denim, fishnet. A spiked collar is a perennial favorite. Stiletto heels make up for her small stature. She likes to be stared at. It throws people off guard.
She has three small circular burn scars on her right shoulder, faded over several years. Yes they are cigarette burns.
Personality Demeanor:
Maggie trusts no one, and she makes no secret of it. She maintains a front of unshakable confidence and humour, but deep down she's just afraid of getting hurt.
She has quite a temper, a loose set of morals, which is a dangerous combination. She's never killed anyone, but she thinks nothing of ruining someone's day. For insulting her, for attacking her, or just for being in the wrong place at the wrong time.
She is crass, foul mouthed, and uncensored. Her bullshit meter is fine tuned, and she has no problem calling people out. She doesn't know how to back down from a fight.
Mutation:
Maggie is a pusher. She never tells anyone about her powers because they are less effective against the prepared. Privately, she compares herself to Andy McGee from the novel Firestarter. Publicly she's vague about what she can do, but sometimes performs some slight of hand trick and claims it's part of her power.
Through eye contact, and sometimes voice, she can implant memories, thoughts, and emotions into other people's minds, influencing their actions.
Like a super powered form of hypnosis, she can't make people do something which is against their character, but with a little effort she can plant memories so deep they change the target's character.
Writing "100" on a piece of paper, handing it to a cashier, and making them believe it's a 100 dollar bill is child's play. Making someone believe a complete stranger murdered their best friend and deserves to die takes a little work. Creating an entire false past in which the victim genuinely remembers her being their best friend since first grade is an afternoon's work.
Her hair color tends to change every few minutes, just because she wants it to. After interacting with most people, she makes them forget her face and voice.
Her powers work to some degree on almost everyone. The effect usually lasts for hours, days if she really puts in some effort. Her ability to damage small piece of short term memory, such as her face, is permanent.
Even a recording of her voice can be used to exercise her abilities. She does her very best never to allow herself to be recorded for this reason.
Flaws:
As far as her powers, the strong willed can resist to varying degrees. Telepaths are usually immune.
Her powers require either the sound of her voice or eye contact to work, so if she cannot employ either (such as being blindfolded and gagged) she is effectively powerless.
Her big mouth and short temper often get her into trouble, as well as her complete disregard for authority. She doesn't know how to let people get close, which tends to mean there's no one around to help her when she needs it.
Hobbies & Aptitudes:
She is what they call "street smart" she knows how to get by in the urban jungle, not just survive, but thrive.
She is a consummate scam artist, using a combination of psychic talent and charm to get people to do anything she wants.
She is equally adept at sleight of hand, performing feats which border on the supernatural. Piss her off enough and she'll steal your underwear right off you.
But that's how she makes her living. Her hobby is street art. Fifteen foot murals painted on buildings at three in the morning without anyone knowing who did it or when. Just signed "MM".
History:
Maggie has spent most of her life on the street, and she prefers it that way. She travels around, getting a different rube to buy her a hotel room every night. She hits the bars with a fake ID (anyone's ID really) and gets people to buy her drinks, then she hits a five star restaurant, picks a table, and whoever's there buys her dinner. If she wants something, she just goes to a store and takes it. The camera sees her run the credit card, and the cashier swears it wasn't just a blank piece of plastic.
She's only ever passing through. Sometimes she even gets someone to give her a car. She doesn't keep them long enough for the push to wear off so they can report it stolen.
She won't talk about her childhood, but it clearly wasn't good.
Her parents were never married, her mom and step dad were in human trafficking, and all that that implies. The burn scars on her arm are from her mom's cigarettes.
At eight her powers manifested and she made her mom put out a cigarette in her own eye and step in front of a truck.
Her biological father literally walked out in the middle of the night within weeks and left her sitting in an empty house. After a series of fosters couldn't handle her, including one that tried to kill her, and one that committed suicide, she ditched the system at twelve and started Pushing strangers to give her what she needed.
First Appearance:
I might hop into that thread at the mall so she can make Eric buy her lunch. It's up in the air who's side she'll be on.
