Physical Description:
In her natural form, Mystique's skin is blue and slightly scaled. Her hair is blood red, and her eyes are yellow, lacking normal irises.
In her alias as Persephone Morrow, benefactor of the House of M, she appears to be in her late thirties, keeping her black hair trimmed to just below her ears
Personality Demeanor:
Mystique is a consummate actor. Her ability to shift her demeanor to suit any role makes her seem mercurial to those around her.
In reality, she is a careful schemer, always planning her next move and trying to stay three steps ahead of her allies, much less her enemies.
She cool under pressure, vicious toward her enemies, and generally unsympathetic. She considers all means to justify certain ends.
She has had bouts with severe emotional instability sometimes triggered by certain elements of her past. The death of her lover Destiny many years ago sent her into crippling depression and nearly cost her sanity.
She genuinely believe that the only hope for mutant kind is the extinction of humanity
Mutation:
Mystique is the most talented known shapeshifter. She can change shape in an instant, and flawlessly imitate the appearance and voice of anyone she has met. This ability is so flawless she can even duplicate fingerprints and fool retinal scanners. From time to time if distracted her eyes turn yellow for a moment.
Subsequent to enhancements to her powers over the years, she has a very limited ability to alter her mass, and can even change her scent, as well as producing complex biological functions such as the senses of various animals.
She can retain an assumed shape even when unconscious.
While she can produce apparently inorganic objects such as metal jewelry, these items must be quite simple. Created items separated from her body deteriorate rapidly.
As a result of her ability to manipulate her structure on a subcellular level, she does not age, and is well over a hundred years old. Making her amonthe oldest mutants living, and one of the first to be documented.
She can with conscious effort repair damaged tissue, giving her an enhanced healing factor which will less powerful than some (such as wolverine) allows her to survive otherwise lethal injuries, and even regrow severed limbs in hours. She is completely immune to disease, and resistant or immune to most poisons. She has been known to reflexively move organs to prevent more severe injuries.
Her strength, reflexes, and agility are beyond Olympian.
As a result of the ability to alter her brain her mind is unreadable and she is resistant to telepathic influence.
Flaws:
Mystique is not emotionally stable, due to a combination of childhood trauma and the strain of multiple losses and betrayals over a difficult life longer than humans are meant to live.
Under duress she sometimes begins to think and behave irrationally.
She is something of a control freak, reacting with excessive anger toward situations she cannot control. Though most of the time she is not, in reality, without control. She always has a plan.
Hobbies & Aptitudes:
As a tertiary ability to her shapeshifting ability she is very attuned to body language and facial expression, allowing her to read people more readily than most, and spot impostures and disguises easily.
She is very intelligent and a polyglot, fluent in at least 14 languages.
She is an espionage and terrorism genius, having worked in Intelligence during both world wars.
She is adept in information technology, as well as high tech weaponry.
She is trained in several martial arts.
History:
Even a synopsis of Mystique's history would be pages long. She is over a century old. During the second world war she assumed the identity of a German spy and worked with one Victor Creed, Sabertooth. She abandoned their child.
After marrying one Baron Christian Wagner she had an affair with Azazel, abandoning their child, Nightcrawler, after murdering her husband.
Years later she fell in love with Irene Adler, known as Destiny. The pair adopted four year old Rogue and raised her for many years.
Destiny's death nearly cost her her sanity. Over a course of years she backed numerous organizations, both heroic and
terrorist in nature. Her single obsessive motivation has always been the prevention of an apocalyptic future foreseen by Destiny. She is willing to do anything, good or evil, to prevent the ultimate destruction of the mutant race and the world itself.
She has been a member of the Brotherhood of Mutants since its inception, though she left for a time and worked with everyone from The Avengers to The X-Men themselves, always with her own hidden agenda. She was also the founder of the third incarnation of the Brotherhood, before control of the group was resumed by Magneto.
Her most well known alias, Raven Darkholme, was used during a long and successful career as an intelligence agent for the US government. Many believe Raven to be her real name, but she remains silent on the subject.
She eventually rejoined the Brotherhood as second in command to Magneto. It was clear to those nearest to her (though no one can be considered to be close to her) that Magneto's "death" greatly disturbed her. It has been theorized that they were romantic. She has threatened extreme violence against anyone who so much as mentioned the subject, making it extremely taboo to theorize as to the nature of their relationship.
In the aftermath of the loss of Magneto and Xavier, Mystique has been slowly rebuilding the Brotherhood, and employed her considerable resources to found The House of M as a recruiting station under the alias of Persephone Morrow. Only the members of the Brotherhood itself know this alias.
At present her relationship with Rogue is strained at best. She has betrayed her and the X-Men repeatedly, broken their trust. She is clearly an enemy to the X-Men, but her restraint where Rogue is concerned suggest she genuinely cares about her daughter.
She has never actually met Kurt, though she has kept tabs on him his entire life.
First Appearance:
Mystique should probably pay a visit to the House of M for a report on Grim's progress getting their plans under way.
