Physical Description:
Bronx wears a dopey grin on his face most of the time, just the first clue to his fun-loving attitude. He is of modest height and weighs roughly 150lbs. Though he is young, only in his late teens, his youthful baby face often has people mistaking him to be younger than he actually is, much to Bronx's annoyance. His skin is a soft brown color, almost bronze, and noticeably absent of any scars or markings. Bronx keeps his hair trimmed very lowly and his face is always clean shaven.
Personality Demeanor:
Bronx is a fun-loving kid. Anything cool or exciting or just generally fun easily catches his attention and can get him rather riled up. He's a bit eccentric that way, cracking jokes and pulling pranks even when the mood does not call for it. He can definitely be serious when it is time to be an adult or when there's a mission, but he doesn't enjoy being unnecessarily serious, he finds it boring. Arson enjoys excitement and adventure, he feels he's wasted a lot of his life not experiencing things so now he wishes to experience everything.
While Bronx is very much a joker and likes to be a clown, he also has a more stern side of him that gives him an air of superiority. The kid is exceptionally smart and unfortunately he is highly aware of this. He looks down on those who aren't quite as smart as him and is not above the offhanded comment that can easily be taken as disrespect. While he is certainly friendly and would make friends with anyone, he is also cocky and full of himself.
Mutation:
Energy Absorption - Bronx is able to absorb a number of energy types, depleting the source, and storing it within himself for various uses.
- Energy affinity: The absorbed energy can be used to empower and amplify Arson's natural ability, such as make him faster, stronger, and more durable.
- Energy immunity: A byproduct of being able to absorb energy means Arson is immune to the negative effects of any energy he comes into contact with.
- Flame Generation: Arson absorbs one type of energy and uses it to generate another type. So far he can only turn other energies into fire (hence the name).
- Fire Attacks: Stored energy can be released as fire based attacks: beams, concussive blasts, optic fire blasts, flame breath.
- Flame Constructs: Using deep concentration Bronx can manipulate his absorbed energy into whatever construct he can think of, made of fire. The size and intricate detail as well as durability of the construct all depend on how much energy he has absorbed.
- Propulsion: By releasing energy toward the ground Bronx can launch himself into the air, if this release is timed steadily he can even simulate flight.
Flaws:
Bronx is self-centered and incredibly cocky. Most of his life he was made a big deal over because of his level of intellect, and it is very clear that all the attention and praise has gone to his head. Though he resents all his time spent stuck in a lab doing work and experimentations, Bronx has never left his better than others attitude behind. He's also quite childish. As he was never allowed a normal childhood before be believes now to be the perfect time to catch up on all that he's missed. He's hardheaded and is hardly ever serious, and being that he has superiority complex he does not listen to others very well.
Besides that Bronx's powers have a few flaws to them as well. First, he has a limit to the amount of energy he can absorb. As he mostly absorbs through his hands whenever he begins to get near or over his limit, his hands begin to burn. From there he develops a fever until he gets rid of the excess energy. Second, Bronx theorizes he can absorb any and all energy but he has not tested this fully, but what he does know is that he has trouble using certain energies. Fire and electricity are easy, magnetic isn't too difficult either, there's some radiation that he cannot properly generate, and nuclear is a no-go. While he can absorb (theoretically) it all, he cannot generate it all, so far he's only managed to convert absorbed energy into fire he can manipulate. He cannot use electricity to generate radiation, or vice versa.
When Arson creates a construct of the fire he manipulates, that construct is only as strong/powerful as the corresponding amount of energy he has absorbed beforehand. This power also relies heavily on concentration, were he to be distracted or have his mind tampered with while creating or using a construct it can cause the construct to die out or shatter. Oxygen is another drawback, if any given area he is in is not well oxygenated the flames will starve.
Hobbies & Aptitudes:
Bronx is exceptionally smart, his intelligence is far beyond most his age. He enjoys working out equations and making discoveries, he feels his mind is his greatest power even though his energy based ones are the funnest.
Arson has a newfound love for sports. In his youth he was preoccupied with learning and studying, but now he has discovered basketball and football, both of which he are fairly good at though his size does not make him promising for either.
Pranks. Pranks and jokes are Arson's life. He can get enjoyment out of almost anything but he absolutely loves to laugh and getting one over on someone else.
Social Media. The kid is addicted and he doesn't even know why. He complains about social media a lot, he finds too many stupid people have access to it and they aren't afraid to post their stupid for everyone to see, and yet he absolutely loves the countless apps that keep him connected to these types of people.
History:
The child of two scientists Bradley Bronck was almost destined from the very beginning to be a gifted child. His parents were highly interested in the mysterious X-gene that made mutants what they were, however the two had completely different reasons for their research. Barbara and Bruce Bronck met when they collided in college over their studies on the rising population of mutants. Bruce hated mutants, he thought them a menace and the biggest immediate threat to humankind like nothing ever seen. Barbara on the other hand found them fascinating and believed that for the first time people were actually getting a first row seat at evolution at work. They both studied the mutant gene that caused either powers or widely unprecedented features to manifest.
Barbara sought to understand them and find out how to further that evolution even more. Bruce wished to destroy them, to put an end to the broken gene and preserve humanity. The two worked and studied the same things together for so long they fell in love, regardless of their differing feelings on mutants. When they had a son they both passed on their beliefs to him, creating a conflicting within young Bradley.
As Bronx grew older his parents ran a science firm together, Bronck's Laboratories. He spent much of his childhood there, the few friends he had disappeared quickly as he began being kept in the labs more and more as he aged. Before he knew it Bronx didn't even mind, he had a knack for the sciences and he was a complete natural for solving equations. His parents were clearly proud of him but Bronx never really felt connected to them and having their different views pushed on him kept him more confused about the world than knowledgeable.
In school it was clear he was brighter than most - of the teachers that is. He moved through grades quicker than you can even imagine. He spent about a month in high school altogether. In college Bronx decided to slow things down, he felt like he was losing himself and he hadn't even experienced anything. He decided to stop breezing through school and enrolled in college normally, taking his time would let him better develop relationships. He's gotten his first degree but still keeps himself enrolled in university, it helps him feel a bit closer to normal.
Bronx has his suspicions but he cannot confirm it. It is his belief that he is not a mutant by birth. He holds that it only makes sense, with both his parents' obsession, they would have had him tested as an infant whether or not he was a mutant. And depending on the answer either his mother or his father would have been disappointed, but never did either seem that way. Bronx doesn't even remember any strange events from his childhood, no unexplained shocks or burns to anyone. Nothing happened until 2 years ago.
Two years ago Bronx had been left at Bronck's Labs by himself, he was working hard on a new large scale capacitor that could help in Africa in giving countless people power for the first time. While he worked a storm began. The entire time Bronx could feel something buzzing inside of him, an unresting jittery feeling that heightened whenever he neared the capacitor he worked on. As he worked, lightning struck the building and the ensuing rumble knocked Bronx into the capacitor's field. As he was running the machinery his sudden jolt into it created a feedback that unleashed storm of outpouring electricity. To Bronx's amazement he was not barbecued by the surge of electricity. He stepped out of the field and felt himself alight with power. Bronx looked at his hands and found them to be glowing a bright blueish-white. Through the blue that crawled under his skin he then witnessed it turn a shining orange before flames burst forth from his palms.
After he put out the fires, shut down the capacitor, and allowed for the storm to pass, Bronx immediately went to work testing his blood and DNA. As the teen figured he possessed the X-gene, he was a mutant. His parents found out just as quickly as he did. They both promised to love him regardless and treat him no different than they ever did, but Bronx noticed they weren't the same. His father barely looked at him, and whenever he did Bronx could only ever remember the hate speech the man constantly preached, speech that now applied to him. His mother, the bleeding heart and sympathizer of the mutants she was so interested in, recoiled whenever her son tried to touch her without warning. She had witnessed his uncontrolled power and it scared her, it wasn't something she could hide.
Bronx felt trapped, imprisoned in a world where he couldn't really be himself. If he tried to be the old Bronx then he was stuck with two parents who feared him and could not bare being alone with him for long. To fully embrace his mutant lifestyle would be to thrust himself into a world he knew nothing about and then his parents would be gone altogether. Bronx decided to run away at sixteen, try to make it on his own and figure out what to do from there. He wanted to go to Genosha, maybe living with other mutants far away from everyone else would be the answer...but then the island nation was destroy, virtually wiping out Bronx's hope. That is until he met a man in red glasses. A man dedicated to protecting the mutants while also teaching them, helping them. Bronx became a New Mutant of the Xavier Institute for Gifted Youngsters.
